Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring "Extended cut" DVD preview Updated 7/31/02 |
1. Decipher: "The Phial of Galadriel." What you actually see Frodo holding in the boat as he recalls what Galadriel said to him. But what did everyone else get? And where did those cloaks come from? 2. Lights Out Entertainment. The Elves hand out and fasten the grey cloaks that the Fellowship will wear for the rest of the film. 3. TheOneRing.net trailer capture (last picture on page): Same scene. 4. Decipher: "Journey into Danger." Same scene, but clearer. 5. Decipher: "Elven Cloak." Notice Pippin specifically getting a cloak and brooch. This is almost as big a plot point for the Two Towers as the Phial. 6. JasmineWatson.com: The leaf brooch itself, a plot point in the second film (if it does, indeed, follow the book in that regard). We don't know in what order the following scenes take place, but going down the line, Gimli seems to be first. 7. Numenoreen. Galadriel says (in the book, at least) that she doesn't know what to give a dwarf; is there anything he would like. Humbled from his earlier hatred of Elves, Gimli asks for a few strands of Galadriel's hair. 8. Decipher: "Dwarven Heart." 8b. New additional shot: The Fellow-ship is leaving Lorien here, but this shot probably ties into the resonances of Gimli's talk with Galadriel. See the FOTR DVD screencap at TheOneRing.net. 9. Numenoreen. In a radio interview, Cate Blanchett confirmed that she and Viggo Mortensen had spoken a scene in Elvish. There's no telling if Aragorn receives a gift as in the book. 10. Numenoreen. 11. Decipher: "Legolas Greenleaf," patiently waiting for his present. 12. Decipher: "Bow of the Galadhrim." Apparently it's a good present. 13. Fantasy Planet. A really, really good present. 14. Fantasy Planet. Dude, it's a bow. You've seen one before, right? 15. Decipher: "The White Arrows of Lorien." Later, Legolas is packing up the boats to leave. 16. Fantasy Planet. Back to the matter at hand: Pippin is holding something. But what? And what does Sam receive, if it's true that "the scouring of the Shire" wasn't filmed? What about his "G for Garden" box? 16b. Now we know! Sam gets his rope! See an FOTR DVD screenshot at TheOneRing.net. 17. Fantasy Planet. At the end of the line: Frodo. Galadriel has the Phial in hand. 18. Numenoreen. This is what you saw in the theater. Well, maybe from an angle that actually made Elijah Wood look shorter than Cate Blanchett. But still. We don't know where the following images go--are they deleted/discarded scenes, or footage that will be re-cut into the "extended" version? 19. TheOneRing.net trailer capture: Elves frolicking. 20. Decipher: "Voice of Nimrodel." Same shot as above, only clearer. In case you're wondering, "Nimrodel" is the name of the Lorien river. 21. Decipher: "Uruviel, Maid of Lorien." While this is a clear shot, it's more likely that this actress would only appear as an extra or background character. Still, are those the Frolicking Elves behind her? 22. Decipher: "Lorien Elf." Ditto. Actually the building looks more like Rivendell, but who are we to argue with tie-in merchan-dise? |
Galadriel's Gifts: A scene confirmed by Lights Out Entertainment and Numenoreen to be on the November "extended cut" DVD. The thumbnails are a shorthand guide to other sites' full-size images, and we are indebted to these original sources. Decipher, Fantasy Planet, and Numenoreen in particular have extensive galleries with hundreds of images, and we encourage you to visit their sites. Additionally, in the case of Decipher cards, we cannot guarantee these precise shots will appear on the DVD--only that they exist. Please use our Contact email form for questions or comments. Peter Jackson noted that he wanted to "get these scenes out there" before the audience herds back into the theater to see the second film. The extended-cut DVD will be released in November, about a month before The Two Towers hits theaters. Cleolinda would like to note here that she is still disappointed that Nenya, Galadriel's ring, made no more than a blink-and-miss-it appearance in the prologue, rather than in the "Mirror" scene. The Lovely Emily would like to note that she still has half a can of Nerd Spray left over from December. (Above: Decipher, "Nenya"; the actual ring from Jasmine Watson's website.) Discuss!
